Job Summary:
The Designer I supports project teams through all phases of design and documentation. This entry-level role is ideal for emerging professionals actively working toward licensure. Under the guidance of senior staff, the Designer I assists with design development, documentation, coordination, and presentation tasks while gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative studio environment. This role emphasizes learning, growth, and exposure to the complete architectural process.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing architectural drawings and technical documentation across all project phases: Programming, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents
- Contribute to early-stage design ideation, renderings, diagrams, and presentation graphics for client and agency review
- Perform basic code research, zoning analysis, and product research to support design decisions and documentation
- Support the Construction Administration process by helping manage RFIs, submittals, and tracking logs; assist in preparing ASIs under direction
- Collaborate closely with Project Architects, Project Managers, and consultants (structural, MEP, civil) to coordinate drawing sets and resolve design issues
- Participate in internal design reviews, charrettes, redlining sessions, and coordination meetings
- Maintain organized project documentation and file structure in alignment with firm standards
- Assist in the ongoing improvement of drawing templates and documentation tools
Software Proficiency Required or Preferred:

- Project Collaboration & Management:
- Autodesk Construction Cloud and Bluebeam
- Graphic & Documentation Tools:
- Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Microsoft Office Suite
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field from an accredited institution
- 3-5 years of professional experience in an architecture firm or internship
- Actively enrolled in the NCARB AXP program and working toward licensure
- Strong skills in architectural drawing, modeling, and visual communication
- Knowledge of architectural fundamentals, including design theory, construction systems, and codes
- Effective verbal, written, and graphic communication abilities
- Strong organizational skills, accountability, and responsiveness to feedback
- Experience in one or more of the following sectors:
- Commercial, Civic, Healthcare
- K–12 / DSA Education
- Religious / Cultural institutions
